Day Hikes

The Lodge Pole Inn is only a mile from the continental divide, and dozens of splendid day hikes are a short drive away. These hikes can be as easy or as hard as you want to make them, a full day adventure or an hour long picnic if you want to come back and spend the afternoon reading in a hammock.

Popular hikes include, ten minutes to the east, the Continental Divide trail that is accessible at McDonald Pass, is maintained by the Forest Service, and offers spectacular views. Fifteen minutes to the west, the Little Blackfoot Meadows trail is also maintained, and follows the upper river through pine forest and wildflower studded meadows. Hike a system of trails to the top of Mount Helena, a climb that comes complete with a guide to local geology, flora, and fauna.
