Whether you’re a hard-core dirt bagger in search of extreme thrills, or just somebody looking to climb on a bike and go for a scenic ride, you can find it all right out your door at the Lodgepole Inn. From the wide shoulders of Highway 12, a major route of transcontinental bikers, to smooth graveled county roads winding along the creeks and rivers, to a maze of single and double track trails and roads careening through the mountains, there is terrain to suit the taste of every biking enthusiast from expert to novice.

Meadows carpeted with wildflowers, expansive vistas, babbling brooks, deer, elk, moose, even the occasional black bear; it can all be part of a day’s ride. There are literally hundreds of miles of under-traveled roads, tracks, and trails in the area, forty different local rides ranked according to aerobic level and technical difficulty are described in “Mountain Biking Helena,” including the Little Blackfoot Meadows loop and the Continental Divide trail. Detailed ride descriptions make is easy to find the trailheads and follow the routes, this book is part of the library at the Lodgepole Inn.

Mountain bikes are available to rent ($10.00/day, $45.00/week). Mountain bike shuttles can also be arranged; get dropped off at a number of different locations along the continental divide and it’s all downhill on your ride back to the Inn.
